Your wedding video is the
collection of memories that you will have of your wedding day to look back on and cherish
for many years to come. The wedding video gives you the feeling and events
at your wedding as they happen(ed).... It is very important to work with a professional
that can capture these moments for you.
There are 2 wedding videos that have become very important in the past few years.
The first, and more obvious, is the video of the events, people and places of your special
day. These add personality to the memories, since they are "live", and as
they happened. A good videographer can make sure that you'll get to feel the
atmosphere of these memories.
The second type of wedding video, is the
one that many couples are using to show their growing up, their siblings, families, and
those special people in their life. It is a video that shows the times of your life,
and always creates a very special experience at your reception. A professional
videographer can help to create this video from your photos and other items
which reflect your personality, taste, and memories.
When choosing a videographer, or production
company to handle these tasks, take care to make sure that this person understands what
you want and what you expect. Many of the tips listed in the photography page can
apply to the videographer as well. Be sure to consider the information below when
choosing a professional to work with.
These professionals have the
experience to make your memories come out on tape. Some of these professionals may
offer your memories on other media like a DVD disk.... Be sure to ask them if this option
is available. They should work with you, and provide some help for the 'basics'
that need to be captured.
The list below has some
important tips to take with you when meeting with potential videographers
- Shop around....interview more than one person for
each service.
- If the photographer/videographer is from the same
place, is it the same person. One person can't possibly cover both pictures and
video at your ceremony and reception.
- Is the person you're meeting with the person that
will be doing the work? If not, set up a meeting with that person as well.
- Insist on seeing examples of their work. If
they're professional, they should have some. Remember, they're not going to show you
their "oops" shots, but check for quality.
- Does the video 'come to life' as you see them.
- Ask for references.
- Do they charge by the hour, or by the job.
Make sure they're available long enough to get all your events on film and/or tape.
- Do they do this part-time or full-time.
Do they have an office. (Many
videographers work from their homes, it's not unusual, if so, ask to meet them there and
see it...make sure it appears professional and organized)
- Have they ever worked at your ceremony or reception
site.
- When will the finished video be ready?
- What packages of vidoes do they offer, and at what
cost?
- How much of a deposit do they need? When is the
balance due?
- What type of guarantees do they offer?
- Do they work as a team with a photographer?
- ONCE YOU HAVE HIRED THEM......
- Make sure you have a contract signed detailing the
above.
- Review the time schedule and date of your wedding
day with your videographer and include this in the contract.
- Will video be done at the ceremony site while
your wedding party is "posed" for the photographers? Is this an option
that your videographer offers. If you want your
video to include your entire wedding party together, remember that it is difficult to get
everyone together when the reception starts and the fun begins... this is a great chance
to capture this moment on video.
- Make a list of special moments that are important
for you to have, i.e. Grandma with Mom and bride etc.
- Very Important-- RECONFIRM THE DATE
AND INFO WITH THEM AT LEAST 2 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING. THIS GIVES TIME...JUST IN
CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG
- VERY, VERY IMPORTANT... DO THEY HAVE
A "BACK-UP" FOR THEM IN CASE OF SOME TYPE OF EMERGENCY. It's unusual, but if they have an emergency, get hurt or sick, or
something catastrophic happens, you could be out a videographer, and miss capturing
these memories.
Talk to the professionals listed on
this page. They can help to make sure your memories are captured. |
