What type of music will you have at your ceremony and reception?  A very common question, and as many suggestions and answers as people that you ask.  Which is right for your style, type of wedding, and most importantly...your budget?

The type of wedding that you are having should help determine the type of music that you will have.  A formal wedding more than likely won't include a reggae band...you see what we mean here.

Whether you decide to use a band, or DJ be sure and check them out as much as possible.  This is the most troublesome place for most bridal couples, and can be quite stressful.

Which is better??? We won't make that call, but here are some considerations to think about whichever you choose.

bulletChoose a professional.... Often are the regrets for letting Cousin Vinny DJ the wedding.  It may be 'nice' and cheaper, but if the music and entertainment are bad, people will remember that.
bulletAre they experienced in doing weddings?
bulletDon't be afraid to ask for referrals.  Your friends, family, and other wedding merchants can be helpful in this area.  Wedding merchants have worked with alot of different people over the years.  Let their experience help you.
bulletCan you see them, either through videotape, or can you see them perform somewhere before committing to this person or band?
bulletWhat do they do to get the 'crowd' going at the reception?
bulletWill they be taking breaks, how long and how often.  What will be played during these breaks?
bulletDo they have a "back-up"..... just in case???
bulletAre they open to your ideas and suggestions, remember this is YOUR DAY, not theirs.
bulletAre requests OK from your guests
bulletBe sure to give them a complete list of the bridal parties, and help them with any 'tough' names to pronounce.
bulletBe very sure to confirm the itinerary for your reception.   This way you can set some plans and make sure that everything is done on time.
bulletVerify who will actually be acting as the DJ/ Emcee at your reception.  Sometimes the person you meet with, is not the person that actually performs at the wedding.
bulletGive them a list of the special songs that you will use for things like the father/daughter dance, the couples first dance, and who the artist is.   It's easy to forget that songs are recorded by different artists, avoid the possibility for confusion.
bulletVerify how long the DJ/Band will be at the reception.  You don't want the music to stop too early.

Be sure to contact the professionals listed on this page.  They will be helpful in planning the perfect entertainment for your wedding day.
