"We request the honor of your presence as our children..."    These words on your invitations make it official, you're really getting married.   Selecting the right invitations, and more importantly, the proper wording on your invitations requires a little more effort that anticipated.  These are your formal announcement of your love for one another and your families announcement of their pride.

How your invitations are worded is best left to the couple and the invitation professional.  This professional has seen alot of different 'family situations' and should have suggestions to make everyone happy.  In the case where the wedding couple's parents may be divorced (not a thought we want here, but it can happen), a delicate balance and suggestion by the printer can make each person happy.  Work with a printer that you can trust.

Your printer should be able to assist with all the items for your wedding.... Invitations, announcements, napkins, matches, and more... ask them for info on what else they have available.

Having a professional addressing service can be a great convenience and stress-free way of doing a big job.  Consider using an addressing service, and spend your time elsewhere.

Below are some guidelines to remember when getting invitations.

bulletOrder your invitations at least 4 to 5 months before your wedding date.  This should give plenty of time.
bulletCheck, double-check, and triple check the information supplied to your printer for accuracy.  No one want their names spelled wrong on their invitations.
bulletConsider using an RSVP post-card.  It will save on the printing cost, and you'll save 13 cents each for the return postage.  Most printers now offer this alternative.
bulletDeliver your invitation envelopes to your addressing service at least 3 weeks prior to when you want to send them out.  This gives plenty of time for rechecking and receiving them finished to send.
bulletIf you are addressing your own invitations do a few at a time or have your wedding party help you.  Try to make it fun to do.
bulletYour invitations should be sent out 1 1/2 to 2 months prior to your wedding.  Be sure to verify the date for your final count with your caterer, so your RSVP's are returned in time.
bulletDon't get alarmed if the RSVP's don't come rolling in the week after you send your invitations.  Most people are somewhat slow to respond.  Use the 80% rule for an approximate count, your caterer can help here.

Make sure that your list is current.  No one wants to get an invitation with the improper spouse's name on it.
